Transcripts of TEDx Interviews

Transcripts from TEDx Interviews

Since we had filmed interviews with various key personnel, myself and Sadie were assigned the job of transfer our interviews into a transcript so we could feed back to our group the responses. That way, we could chose specific responses to shape our projects narrative as this was the core dialogue within our video project. Below are the transcripts I made from specific interviews. Sadie has transcribed the other lot of interviews

1. Sam (Bald Guy) - Interview Transcript

Response 1:
We chose Brighton Dome for the TEDx event for a number of reasons. One because it such a lovely venue, its a very famous venue in Brighton, it very historical. Two, the staff are fantastic and helpful and we have a history with the staff here as the TED first start with the corn exchange and we've since move it into the concert hall. Thirdly, its the nicest venue of this size in Brighton, its as simple as that.

Response 2:
So we curate the theme as a team and this year we chose the theme by all getting together at a pub in a windy night in November and over pizza and a few drinks we discussed all the all things that were interesting to us, all the themes that we felt were interesting and relevant to Brighton and Hove in the coming year and we mould those over together and in the end 'Losing Control' popped into all our brains and we went with that.

Response 3:
TEDx is all about ideas worth sharing. Obviously, it's licensed by TED and its an independent event and TEDx events happen all over the world. So, why is Brighton such a great place to have a TEDx? I think Brighton is historical and culturally a really open-minded town, a very inclusive town , very cosmopolitan so I think Brighton is a natural place to have a TEDx, its a really great forum for discussion and new ideas.

Response 4:
If I had to sum up the Dome in three words I would say: Historic, Atmospheric and Professional

Response 5:
So I was born and bred in Brighton. I absolutely love the architecture in the Dome. The Pavilion and the Dome I think is one of the icons/iconic landmarks of Brighton so what's no to like about it!

2. Lewis - Interview Transcript

Response 1:
My name is Lewis Klein, I'm from South Africa and Cyprus but I go to the University of Brighton and I've lived her for the last three years. I now like to call myself a proud Brightonian and representative of the E.D.L. Not the E.D.L. that you think though. We're the English Disco Lovers.

Response 2:
It's been such an awesome experience to be around such incredible thinkers. Everyone is just so diverse in their ways of thinking and all their different practices and I find it just so incredible to be like surrounded and immersed in such a culturally rich and such thought provoking environment so yeah it's been really great. Plus, I get to you know, show some tricks up on stage.

Response 3:
I think the Brighton Dome is beautiful. It's one of the most beautiful venues I have ever worked at. The TED event looks spectacular and so professional here. The lighting is incredible, the sound is spectacular and the crew backstage are the characters. They're real characters (chuckles)

Response 4:
I would describe it as: Aesthetic, Exciting, Cultural

3. Hannah - Interview Transcript

Response 1:
Working on any event at the Brighton Dome is always incredibly exciting, but every event comes with it's challenges so what we try to do is get a complete brief from the client before they come in as to what it is they would like us to achieve. We go about achieving this through the use of our lights, our sound and today in particular, we've got signage that the client has brought along and we've tried to light it in an effective way that gives depth to the stage without having to go into too much detail with special effects and things that could potentially take even more time. The biggest thing that's always against us in an event is time, so it's about trying to make everything look as clean and as slick as possible in sometimes quite a small space of time so that's how we kind of work with the client in advance as to give them the best possible outcome in the shortest space of time.

Response 2:
I think the best thing about working on the TEDx Brighton event is the fact that every year, there's different speakers. Every year, there's a different subject so it's never just the same conference over and over again. Even down to the simplest thing of lighting and our gauze and things that we've use this year are quite different from last year so I think when it comes to viewing the conferences, you can see a real difference from year to year which helps make each one individual, even though it's within the turning conference.

Response 3:
I think the reason clients and events return to the Brighton Dome is because we offer not only a fantastic and iconic venue, but it is so flexible and adaptable. So even though the events come year after year, every year we are working closely with the clients to offer the something new and different, not only for the clients themselves, but also for the audiences that attend.

Response 4:
I think the reason TEDx works well here is because again, not because of just that we're a fantastic venue that's unique and iconic to Brighton, but that also we therefore attract a varied and interesting range of speakers which then in turns attracts a wide and varied range of audiences.

Response 5:
Summing up the Brighton Dome in three words, I would call it: Iconic, Unique and Fun.

Response 6:
I think what makes the architecture here at the Brighton Dome stand out from other venues around Brighton is purely down to its history. Not only does it stand out in Brighton, but it stands out in the whole of the UK. It's very rare that you'll find another venue that is some prominent in it's uniqueness.

4. James - Interview Transcript

Response 1:
I think it's a wonderful venue for something like this. It's beautiful and it kind of feels like it's steeped in heritage. Brighton is a hub of innovation and creativity and I think this is very representative of Brighton. I think that the setting works very well, I think there's plenty of space for discussion, some really interesting areas at the foyer. So yeah, I think it's an excellent choice for a venue.

Response 2:
I think Brighton...I don't know Brighton very well, I come down here as a lot of people do for the odd day out, to come and see the seaside, come and see the town. But, what always strike me about Brighton is how creative and forward thinking it is. I'm always surprised when I see in Brighton, I don't see it in London which is supposed to be a progressive city. Brighton really does that edge in regards to progression and creativity and inclusion and it's a great breeding ground for new ideas and thoughts and creativity. So, I thinks its a great place to hold a TEDx event.

Response 3:
Spooky, Beautiful and Important is how I would describe the Brighton Dome.
